Capstone Portfolio Course

This is the final course in the graduate program. It allows students to showcase their skills and develop a portfolio that details their learning and development regarding technology and education. This course provides an intense reflective experience for students of any program and allows each student to use their own personal style and all of the skills they've learned in the program.

Teaching Understanding with Technology

In this course, students studied the application and integration of productivity tools and web-based resources in educational settings to improve teaching and learning. The final project for this course was to work in groups to apply new technologies to the classroom. My group focused on technologies that afforded new ways to extend the communication between instructors and student.

Applying Educational Technology to Practice
Instructor: Chuck Commeret
In this course, the content revolved around the identification, implementation, and evaluation of technology-based solutions to educational issues in school settings. After evaluating and reviewing various programs and solutions to educational problems, students were put into groups and designed a presentation containing a solution to an educational problem. The group component also allowed students to utilize various collaboration and communications tools that the web affords.

Technology and Leadership

In this course we studied various professional development strategies, including project management, planning and evaluation, and relationship building. We reviewed various leadership styles and analyzed the success and effects of a variety of successful leaders. As a final project students were asked to develop a proposal to solve an educational problem using a technology solution. We were asked to describe the problem and propose how we as leaders would implement the solution.

Teaching K-12 Students Online
Instructor: Michelle Schira Hagerman
Various strategies for constructing and implementing online curricula were studied. This included introduction to a variety of platforms for online curriculum, and the study of successful online curriculum design. The final project for this course was to develop a unit or module using one of the reviewed platforms; throughout the process a notebook was kept to document brainstorming and reflection.

Approaches to Educational Research

Alternative methods of educational research were the focus of this courses content. Developing a research proposal was the large project for this class, it included evaluating data and analyzing publications. My research proposal was structured around the question: What are the effects of grammar instruction on student composition, specifically proofreading and revision?

Online Literacy and Reading to Learn in the Digital Age
Instructor: Rand Spiro
In this course a focus on reading and researching using various digital avenues was studied. This included how individuals tend to read the web, and what processes and skills they use. The effects of the digital age on reading, writing, and researching was also a large focus of the content. A large project was the focus of the class; students were asked to develop a lesson to exhibit that used a specific technology but focused on one aspect of digital reading and a specific skill.
